The University of Tulsa is welcoming 700 new undergraduates to campus this fall, including 600 first-time students and 100 transfer students from places like Tulsa Community College. One-quarter of all new first-time students are National Merit finalists and semifinalists – more per capita than any other university in the country.
This year’s incoming class is the most racially diverse ever – 42% identify as multicultural – and includes undergraduates from 43 states and 17 countries. An astounding 100% of first-year students are receiving some form of financial aid.
“This is definitely a class to watch. We are known for having the best and brightest students in the region, but this group of incoming students puts The University of Tulsa on par with places like Harvard, MIT and Stanford,” said President Brad R. Carson. “We want TU to be renowned for the highest academic standards, the most advanced research, the best liberal arts foundation, the most beautiful campus, the happiest students and the most successful alumni.”
TU also reports record-breaking news on the graduate level with 115 doctoral students enrolled for fall 2023. University master’s programs have added more than 150 students this fall, as well. Graduate School students hail from 40 countries in total.
“We have carefully reinstated some degrees and strategically invested resources in promoting our excellent academic offerings. This work is paying off in the form of increased student recruitment, which will have ripple effects across campus,” said Graduate School Dean Jennifer Airey. “Boosting the number of well-qualified master’s and doctoral students translates to advanced research and improved reputation.”
Forty new faculty members are joining TU’s five colleges, too. Their areas of expertise include homelessness and affordable housing; electronic music; humor and diversity in the workplace; and personality disorders – among others.
Innovative academic and student support programs on the undergraduate, graduate and campus-wide levels have drawn positive attention and raised TU’s national profile. Applications are now open for 2024-25.
